Hi,
First post here, but i have been lurking around lately

Everybody seems Nice and full of good advices

I am building a portable setup With i hope, Will Be happy
For a couplés years.
I listen to near everything ranging from classical to metal
And some hiphop. At home, work or commuting.
I Will use the setup for movies and gaming and dont own any
Sort of home system.
I disregard in ear headphones.

Let see if i Did my homework right!
Im from Montréal and the high quality gear is hard to get.

What i have selected so far;

Hd598 vs dt880 premium 250omh
Are available as lightly used near me for the phones. 200 each shipped

E17 vs z02 100$ and 75$
Also lightly used

My source is not bought yet but since i lack option here
Ill prolly just use either an old 3G iPhone or buy à classic 5.5

Out of those what is the best combo in your opinion?
Any unlisted options that you would love to share?

Regards.

Ooo, another montrealer?
I'll let you listen to my setups if you'd like ;P
I have the E17.
Also, while you may not care if your music leaks out and bugs other people, the outside noise can really ruin the listening experience.
I tried using my HD800 on the metro and at fairly high volume (for me anyway) and I could barely hear my song.
You should really consider a closed back pair or a pair of IEMs.
Look at some like the Sennheiser HD25-i-ii with the fiio e17 on bass reduction (I find it clears up the sound a lot).

I think you should visit Layton Audio on St. Catherine (Downtown) and they have all the best portable gears include like Denon, Shure, HD800 headphones, HiFiMan DAPs, Portable AMPs and highend IEMs. The other shop on Desource near Desource Place also has Grado, Shure, Sennheiser, Denon porducts(headphones IEMs).

Layton has a very wide selection.
There's actually a member here on headfi that works at layton and he's very experienced with headphones.
Unfortunately, layton only has a handful of amps and 0 fiio products.

You can check out the AKG K550 with an amp like the Fiio e11, both should fit in $300.
Layton does carry the k550.

I will recommend the D2000, V-Moda M80, Major Marshell + JDS Labs C421, Sony ZX700, Focal closed back headphones are recommended too. BTW Harmen Kardon CL on ear headphones are very well built and they sound great with Guitar based music( recommend for Rock, Country, Instrumental POP and Jazz) and they will improve with AMPs help.
