SRH840 vs DT150
Dec 22, 2009 at 10:51 PM Post #3 of 14
I feel that the DT150 is an extremely well balanced headphone. Extraordinary soundstage, deep and clean bass, excellent detail retrieval, great extension on both ends. However, being picky, it does have an almost plasticky sound; that is to say that it isn't as natural or effortless as some of the other headphones that I've heard. The HD-25 (I heard at a Guitar Center) would be leagues better as a portable, but IMO (didn't hear them head-to-head, but based off of audio memory...), I liked the DT150's more. I heard the 840 at a GC also, but only for about 10 seconds, so no opinion other than it was pretty comfy there.

I have both 840 and HD25-1II, they are for different market. For overall SQ, 840 is better; but not so much than the HD25. While HD25 is the best option of light weight headphones, 840 is more suitable for using indoor because its weight and size.

This is Head-Fi, where clear answers don't usually exist. There's always going to be disagreement so you'll have to make your own conclusion about it.

Either way you go, both the DT150 and the SRH840 will be very pleasing for you. The DT150 comes up as low as $80 on the FS forums, but ~$120 is a more likely price. The SRH840 can be had for $117 from Northern Sound and Light (or so I've heard; you have to call/email for that price).

Thanks

I'm pretty sure few people have. Just like the DT250 which gets little love these days. Everyone wants the newest kid on the block.

I only have 440 but i heard that 840 umamped is the same as 440. If that's the case i would choose DT150 easily. The 440 was thin with a major lack of bass and soundstage. 440 was analytical.
