Hi, i just received the SRF-S84 modded by xin..
first of all, i LOVE it...

i think im gonna be using a lot more than my darn 3g Ipod!

one question though... the reason why i bought it was of its superb sensitivity (very good) + low back ground hiss...

thats what i gathered from this forum..

my qn is, HOW low a backgorund hiss is low?

I can still hear hiss, especiallly when there is not background music, and the dj is just talking. there is a distinct background hiss.... this occurs even when im locked in exactly to a strong signal...

is this normal? should i be expecting ZERO hiss? is there something wrong with my 84?

or is this minimal hiss im hearing as low as it gets?

thanks!

I had one of these-- GREAT radio, btw. Some of this depends on the strength of the signal and how the station compresses their signal. The inherent noise floor is pretty low, but on some stations, particularly radio stations where the DJ's voice is compressed and boosted, you'll notice the hiss when they're not talking.

I miss my modded SRF-S84.... and it would be a heckuva lot cheaper than an ipod!
