I listen to metal and I must say that 595 are very good for the task.
sr60 are very good too if you prefer a brighter (and much coloured) sound, but consider that they still remain a pair of cans that cost one third than the 595

Let your hearing judge! Seriously, it's about your taste and preference, not about particular type of music.

Read somewhere in another thread how happy are many listening to rock with HD 650.

While, in general, I prefer Grados for rock/metal I'd rather have the 595s between those two. I think they are better than the SR60s by quite a bit. For most rock/metal I listen to my 225s but there are still occasionally bands/albums/songs I prefer on my 595s.

The SR60s are really lovely to listen to. Intro to the Grado sound-- quite forward, impactful, etc. The 595s are less forward, but more balanced, a rather neutral sound-- music is detailed but becomes more... "enveloping" I should say.

I like both for all manner of music. However, it's really a matter of personal preference. Audition the cans if you can.

I'd say go for the hd595 over the sr-60, unless you only listen to rock music. Even then you might prefer the 595 it's a good all-round headphone.

You probably know this already, but since these phones are different price points, depending on your reason for the comparison you may want to compare the HD595 to the SR225.

Personally I think they are really good all around headphones. I don't think they are necessarily great at anything, instead they're good at pretty much everything. There are some things I really like my 225s for (they're great with rock, a lot of jazz, blues) and others where I don't like them much at all (classical, opera, watching movies). I have no such qualms with the 595s, I can listen to pretty much everything with them.

EDIT: One area they do excel in, to my ears, is female voices.

weird comparison... anyway...

Agree with all the ppl above.

1) should compare at about the same price point. (just a suggestion)
2) if only rock is important, get grados
3) 595s are great all rounds... if you are going to listen to other stuff.
4) get sr60 only if 2) and want to save some money...
5) if money is not an issue and 2), get the best grados you can afford... lol

Used HF1s go for around that much.
Used SR225s go for around $150
You might be able to find a used SR325(i) or MS2(i) for that much.
