SR100: What to do ?

I would leave them as is, listen to them as is. Then, down the line when you get an HP1000 use that and keep the SR-100 nice and safe so that you can use the drivers from it when the HP-1000 goes bad.

I like the idea. The problem is I'm still trying to build a "Poor man" HP-1000. I might be able to afford a pair of real HP-1000..... sooooooon.

You could try putting the drivers in an MS-2 housing. But frankly. I wouldn't play dice with them at all until need necessitates.

Are those the one that finished not long ago on Ebay?

If yes, I'm not sure those have the HP-1000 drivers since they have the white cloth... with brown staining.

I think I know which ones you are talking about. I almost got those but then it went above my budget.

How do you tell if the drivers are not HP-1000 by looking at the mesh ? If the mesh is white then the drivers are not the same as the ones used on HP-1000 ?

I can assure you that the last pair on eBay just don't have the HP1000 drivers, sorry. Also, you can't use the HP1000 drivers in the SR100/200/300 in the HP1000 enclosures.

Why not?

Exactly.

I do have a SR100 with HP1000 drivers.

Your pair is more in line with the SR125/MS1 due to the black plastic cup mesh, mine is black metal mesh like a SR325i. Your leather headband is slightly different, mine has a big round steel bar in it to support the uncommon weight of the HP1000 drivers while your has only a flat steel bar that bends much more easily. Lastly, the driver's mesh on your pair is pinkish/while while mine is completely black, cause I have the HP1000 drivers.

I can't compare them soundwise but my guess would be that your pair is better than the current SR125/MS1 but not superior to the SR225. Maybe a little modding like changing the plastic mesh for metal would results in some nice improvements, bringing your SR100 closer to the non-HP1000 SR200, which I owned, which I thought was more neutral than the old school MS2 I had.
