SR-125 vs. MS-1: did I pay too much?
Jun 17, 2005 at 3:44 AM Post #16 of 19
Thanks for all the input, everyone... Truth be told, I love my 125's, and seeing as I have just ordered 4 pairs of the hd 414 pads, I'm likely to love them even more very soon. I guess it just bothered me a bit to know that I paid $275 CDN for a pair of earphones that would have cost me about $170 CDN, considering the negligible difference in SQ b/w the MS-1's and the 125's. Ah well, you live, you learn, I guess. Time to put this thread to bed...

Cheers!

Well, who knows? I don't have any trouble thinking that one of the tweaks may be to put a different cable on the SR80 drivers. But if the MS-1s are SR-125s, it seems to breat the pattern.

Price of RS-1 (695) + 4 = Price of MS-Pro
Price of 325 (295) + 4 = Price of MS-2
Price of SR125 (150) - $49 = Price of MS-1?

The SR80 is 95.

By comparing specs, both MS-1 and SR125 uses UHPLC Copper voice coil wire (also used in Grados 125 and up) but SR80 uses standard copper voice coil wire (which is also used in SR60).

Its hard to believe MS-1 is SR80

The pattern makes intuitive sense, but when you compare the two, the MS-1 is an astonishing deal comparitively. Aside from being $50 cheaper, the MS-1 out-specs the SPL and the frequency range of the 125's, and so far seems to sound nearly identical to SR-125. Hence my wallet woes...

Ah well, SH-T happens!

Cheers!
