Seeing how I just sold my HD-280 pro on amazon marketplace, I'm going to buy HD-555 somewhere. How does the sound quality on the HD-280 compare with the HD-555? Which is more detailed, has more bass? Since I was kind of expecting more out of the Hd-280.... What retail stores (not online) sells Hd-555 the cheapest?

HD 555 has better bass and detail.

I prefer the 555 for bass and detail. The 280 always sounded kind of hard, flat and lifeless to me.
