Get the Audiolab - it will function as both dedicated DAC *and* a CDP. I have read varying reviews of the rDAC - some hot, some not - but the gist of many seems to be that it leans toward the clinical side of the audio spectrum : thats a matter of personal taste, but you wanted opinions and I've given you one.

I dont know the difference between the '8000CD' and the 'CDE', but What Hi-Fi wrote a very favourable review of the former:

Worst case, if you didnt like the sound signature on the CDP you could use it as a CD transport into another DAC via the coax out. I would very much like to hear this paired with something like the Marantz PM6003, but unfortunately I have heard neither the Audiolab nor the rDAC and am forced to read the same reviews you do.

hi
I think you are confused with the 8200CD which is supposed to be totally amazing. Ive just purchased the 8000CDE im looking foward to it.

Nice thoughts though!
