as the title states, i've got a 2m high quality s-video cable that I no longer need, but i do need 2 1m cables, anybody know where i could pick up the connectors to chop my cable in half and reterminate it, or is this a bad idea

They are sold at most electronic shops. Our tandy has them so i'm sure your radioshack does too.
