TITANO Part 3
Set up:
Source: Liquid Music with Mac Book Pro & IMac 27" + Audirvana Plus + TIDAL
Headphone Amplifier: MHZ Lilliput; Cypher Labs Prateus & Huraca'n 845
DAC: Weiss DAC202 & Eam Labs D101 Music
Headphones: Spirit Torino TITANO & Spirit Twin Pulse
Good Morning Dear Headphones,
This morning I passed to test the Spirit Titan with 3 Superb Headphone Drivers, the MHZ Lilliput, with NOS Valves, the Cypher Labs Prautes, Made in USA, a Push Pull Valve, also with NOS Valves...and finally the Huraca'n 845, a Class A S.E. with 2 Top of the Range PSVane Valves, a 15 Watt Amplifier and with the Headphone Impedance selectable from 20 to 300 Ohm.
All 3 Set ups have as Mac Source, two Book Pro and a 27" IMac, connected to 3 DACs, the Weiss 202, Eam Lab D101 and an Apogee. The Player used is always an Audirvana Plus + TIDAL, remotely controlled with an Audirvana App on IPad.
As Software I thought to use Baroque Music, like Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart, in small Ensembles, followed by Female Voices and Jazz Trio and Quartets and some excellent Blues. In the picture, there are some of these Albums, used for this rehearsal.
Let's start the listening with the duo MHZ Lilliput & Titano, after a proper warm-up of the Valve Driver. The sound that comes out from the Titan, appears immediately warm, Wide is Round at the right point, and the Soundstage, is of those important and very well structured. The various instruments are well placed in space, and easily located inside the Hall. The listener is positioned with his ideal armchair, centrally and at the first places of the Hall, and enjoys a real setting, and a privileged listening to the Artists, who are performing there on stage at that moment.
The sound of the Titan Headphone, seventy with the 5 open holes, is never swollen and/or long in the queues. The Mid/Low range is perfect and well blends with its excellent Mid and High, making the performances of Bach and/or Vivaldi, sparkling and full of Pathos, recreating the Ancient Eighteenth Century Settings.
Moving on to Voci Femminili, I select a Jazz Album, Day by Day, by the Spanish Mayte Alguacil, which presents a clear and seductive Voice, and is accompanied by an excellent Jazz group. The recording is very good, and here the Bass in the solos fills the Titan's Sound, in a really beautiful and vibrant way, with a marble presence but that doesn't take anything away, to Mayte's Voice, which is very well centered in the head, while the Drums beat its rhythm and the sticks, played on the metal edge of the drums, give back in a convincing way the sound of the wood with which they are made and the cymbals, are clear and sparkling ... really a pleasure. In conclusion, this Set up, I found it convincing, it's really performing, warm and musical...and the MHZ Valves, give the right thickness and beauty to the Titan, so that the spectator can abandon himself completely in his favourite music. I can certainly say, that who listens to these Musical Genres, the combination of the Titan with a Valve Driver, is for me ... highly recommendable!!
After the first listening to the Titan, with the MHZ Lilliput Valve, which behaved well in driving the Spirit Headphone, I go on to the listening with the Cypher Labs Prautes Driver, an Amplifier with Musicality, Naturalness and Harmonic Wealth, really Excellent, and that I normally use as Set up, for my Pioneer Master1...a Master Headphone, that I consider one of the best Dynamics, ever produced, for Musicality and for a Care in Construction, to the "State of the Art", together with the U.S. Driver, a piece of rare beauty, designed and built by Damon Coffman, who in addition to being a Military Engineer is also an expert musician, so he transferred his love for Music and experience, in this work, using only Cold War Air Force Military Components, when he was embarked on American Ships. The Project is based on Vintage Schemes and internal and point-to-point wiring. Every time I listen to him with the PioneerMaster1, I thank myself for having made, this crazy expense, even if economically high...but the Passion is not in charge, and I preferred to deprive myself of other things, less satisfying for me.
Done this dutiful preamble of presentation, let's go back to the Sound and Behavior of the Titan with this Prautes...Guys what to say!!!!...simply Pure Magic, here all the good impressions already received with the MHZ, that I underline to be a very Musical Appliance, here are brought to the absolute Nirvana, and the Sound with the Cypher, becomes liquid like a Source of Water gushing from the gorges of the Alps. Everything here is perfectly balanced, and the Sound fills my head with sweet harmonies and palpable emotions. The behavior of the Titan, compared to the Pioneer Master1, is only slightly less emphasized and great, but the clarity and the sound planes, are very well in evidence, and the sound range is correct and visceral, already with the Volume level at about 9:00 a.m. ... totally satisfying the listener ... and I find that here, the combination, is Oscar-winning. Spending my days living with Titan, I'm more and more convinced to be in front of an emotional Headphone, that can sound good, a bit with everything, both with Solid Stadium Amplifiers and Valvolari, but if you call it Componentistica di Rango, the Titan is exalted, and knows how to return a Musical Fabric, made of many nuances, Wide, Royal and Eclectic, to bring you to "drool" like a St. Bernard Dog, when you put under his nose a leg of Ibex. So dear Headphones, the height of your will be so much higher, depending on the quality of the "Fat" that you will be able to give to this Headphone, putting this new creation of Spirit, without doubt at the top of the Headphones, Semi Top, and is for me, absolutely a real "Best Buy" in that segment ... It is certainly not the best Headphone ever, but it certainly has the Pedigree, of its older sister, the Twin Pulse Ragnarr.
The last listening of the day, sees the use of a Valve Driver with a Heart with a Super Car Performance, thanks to the use of the 845 Valves, which although not musically the maximum finesse, in musical terms, but know how to release an overflowing force in terms of power, giving an Emotional Impact, without equal. And that's why I have given this project the name of Huraca'n 845 S.E., like the Auto di Sant'Agata Bolognese. With its External Power Supply, the Driver in S.E. is an Amplifier with a weight close to fifty kilos, that drives without problems all the Headphones, even the most difficult ones, like the Abyss 1266 or the HE-6. Really a great feeling, which is very similar to what you get with the older sister, but it remains rightly superior to her.
CONCLUSIONS
We arrived at the end of the long Journey, and I apologize if I was protracted, but the Set ups to listen to with the Titan Headphone, were many, and the Rehearsal gave the opportunity to express this new Project of Spirit and Andrea, in many ways, all very interesting and right to report in this review. And having the honor of being the first in the world to try it and talk about it, it was a great honor for me, but also a pleasant responsibility! Certainly what I wrote, comes from a lover of these objects, now for more than 3 Lustres, and then out of any commercial and / or marketing scheme ... also because it is not in my style, I have always been a free man of my thoughts, and especially because the historical moment, which we are all living, requires us to be loyal to others, so we must review certain bad behavior, held in the recent past!!!
The Spirit Titano, offers many of the advantages of semi-closed headphones, with the right soundstage, fast and well-braked bass, excellent portability, despite its weight, but also some isolation. They are well built and offer a genuine and engaging approach, and their sound is detailed and transparent, and thanks to the action of the ventilation holes and how they can be used, you can get different nuances from the same headphone, and this is certainly an added value of this new creation by the Spirit Torino Team. Certainly the commercial positioning of this Headphone fits in an already quite crowded environment, but its State of the Art Construction and its Performance, are the important ones, so I foresee a good response, from National and Foreign Headphones, that will see their needs satisfied, thanks to a Headphone, that can recreate those sensations of physicality and live performance, but now also in Audiophile and/or Hi-Fi version.
If you don't already have a Twin Pulse at home...certainly this New Titan could be a valid and reasoned purchase. It's really very Performing and Funny for listening to Albums like Masekela's Hope...Jethro Tull...and similar, but without giving up listening to Jazz/Blues/Vocal and Baroque Albums, because this Titan, is an Omnivorous Headphone, that makes everything sound good!!!
Finally, I give a Useful Tip to Rodare at best the Headphones/Cables, using the Taralabs File, that you can find on this Link: https://www.taralabs.com/cascade-noise-burn-in, that will improve the Low Range, making it more pleasant and above all Tesa and Fuoco. It also improves the whole Transparency and increases the Scene. On New Headphones and Cables, it will be necessary to put the File in "Repeat" x about ten Cycles at Medium/Low Volumes.
Finally, I will keep this Headphone for a few more days, as I would like to enjoy it with some great Tape Master with the STUDER A812-TCMKII as Source and the AF-6 as Driver...if it will be useful I will give some updates, also with this Super Set up.
Thanks to All
