Head-fi, I need your help!

I just ordered the FiiO, and there is no volume control on that little creature!
So I was thinking, when my iPod 6G is connected to the dock, and that dock is
connected via a custom made iPod LOD > RCA to my amp, I can turn the volume down with my Apple Universal Remote.

At that point, what piece of equipment is turning down the volume?
I see the volume bar on my iPod decreasing as the sound is being turned down.

We use pin 2, 3 and 4 for line-out, but add a 1kOhm to pin 21, so the iPod "thinks" it's docked, and thus gaining the ability to control volume via LOD, correct?

Can anyone confirm this?
I can't, since Qables.com in holiday 'till August 10th, so I can't get any supplies.

you might just be attenuating a line out signal with the remote. not amplifying, but lowering the volume of the line signal. Maybe one of these

and a line level attenuator in between the amp and the line out
would work

Yeah, that works, but that only makes the rig bigger.
I want to use as little as necessary.

Anyway, I also read the iPod classic and the iPhone have compsite audio on pin 27(right) and 28(left). Maybe there is volume control on those?
