I have a budget of 200-300$ for desktop speakers. I mostly watch sitcoms and listen to music. No gaming.

I would like to have clear Mids and highs. Slightly low Bass is acceptable.

Any suggestions on Speakers.... Either a 2.1 set or a combo or discreet components (Amp, satellites and woofer).??

Regards,
Jay

Maybe the Corsair 2500 2.1

Or maybe this speaker and sub-woofer from Parts-express (still need to pick a speaker amplifier).

If you want the best musical experience for that money then you need to get studio monitors. Accurate and crisp. And later you can get a real subwoofer, not the toy you get in the those 2.1 kits. You could try and get studio monitors for $200 and spend $100 on a sub but I would go for a better set of monitors first then later spend the money on a better sub. I have a cheap $100 sub that my Dad bought but surprisingly works well. You do not care too much for bass so a set of 5" monitors would do just fine. I would not pay more than $200-250 for the entry level monitors. The Airmotiv 5S is $350 but that is very cheap considering it was $500 just a couple of months ago and was even a bargain at that price.
My recommendations would be:
M Audio BX5-D2
JBL LSR305
Airmotiv 5S (my next monitor)

Agreed with the bookshelf speakers from PE. I use these along with a Topping TP21 amp. It's a great combo on the cheap...

Agreed with getting Studio Monitors.

My recommendations are slightly expensive but please read it's reviews and hopefully you will buy one :)

I personally would get the Vanatoo's to have an audiogasm

Pretty much all subwoofers have an amp. A studio subwoofer has the best connection options but are pricey. I would get a used Presonus T10. It looks to me the most impressive $400 studio sub and they go for $300 used. For $500 I would get an SVS SB1000. For cheaper than $300, look at the Polk DSW line or the NXG BAS 500.

I am on a 300$ total budget...

Pioneer BS22 speakers and a t-amp OR Monoprice 5" studio monitors

AND

Dayton SUB 1000 or SUB 1200

Either that, or wait to see if you need a sub and get the JBL LSR 305 studio monitors. Most people really love them for the price :)

If that is your total budget than I would recommend getting monitors and waiting til you can afford a better sub. You could go with a setup like mine which I do love, but bass management is tough if you do not have the right equipment. My Xonar ST has a crossover, my sub and monitors do not. What DAC are you using? A good DAC is necessary to squeeze all the fidelity out of the speakers you will be getting. I would recommend buying the right components first rather than buying whatever you can afford and then upgrading again later on.

These are $300, best sound in the price range. I don't recommend using them directly from your computer. They are active, so no amp needed. I recommend the Schiit Modi DAC ($99) if you Don't make music.
