so, I got some cheap crappy 2.1 system for free from a friend- when I hook it up to my modded X-FI card, it buzzes(sounds like the same freq as my fan in the system). When I hook up my ipod...no buzz

when i hook my soundcard up to my pimeta and k501- no buzz.

I'm assuming there is no filter cap in the cheap 2.1 amp? But I don't have a filter cap in my pimeta...

ideas?

U may have some ground loop. Try to separate the 2.1 system signal ground and the mains ground.

You have a ground loop. Specifically in this case your computer is earthed and has to be, and your stereo isn't and shouldn't be.

Acquire 1:1 audio transformers and insert them between sound card and stereo.

car audio shops carry RCA type ground loop isolators that don't suck very much.

Alternatly get a stereo receiver with digital input and run digital from your sound card, and then wonder why you have such a high falutin sound card acting as nothing but an S/PDIF transmitter.
