I've read this being sometimes the case. I'm not perfectly coherent with all the specs and numbers eg but what in a laymen terms should a headphone amp be a speaker amp? Is ohms the indicator?

I have a unique speaker amp set up that I use for headphones. I have a pair of Nelson Pass (First Watt) Monoblocks as my headphone amps (Dedicated Amp for each ear cup). I use the RME ADI 2-DAC as the DAC/Pre-Amp.

Yup, its 100% doable. I personally run a vintage 180w speaker amp for the 70's with my hifiman arya, and its a very nice match~ (sony ta-n86b)
How ever, you obviously have to be careful, especially with vintage gear, since blowing stuff up is a risk haha.
How ever, there probably isnt much point in doing so with most dynamics. Id only see a point in running a speaker amp for very power hungry cans :)
