Speaker amp for headphones

While it can be done, its risky. If the speaker amp is unstable at high impedance loads, or produces large amounts of DC offset into those impedances. Theres always the risk of overpowering the phones too, but again that all depends on the amps output at higher impedances than it was designed for. Not all speaker amps common ground the speaker neg terminal, so that also might cause some problems.

I saw a schematic somewhere on the web for a simple resistor circuit to do just this.

You can get a cmoy for under $50 now days, so thats your best bet IMHO. Straight out of your source.

It sure can be done!
Stax electrostatic headphones can be driven from speaker amplifiers using an energizer box. The AKG K1000 can be driven my a speaker amplifier as well.

How about HD650? I have a Sumo Polaris II amp btw. Might it "blow" it up?
