I’m looking to order some Sparko opamps for my Conductor 3X Reference. Alex from Burson advises me: The Conductor 3XR uses 4 dual opamps. 2 for the I/V stage and 2 for L/P stage. Change over the V6 Classic dual in the LP stage will be fantastic for your unit.

Sparko's top model is the pro SS2590 https://sparkoslabs.com/product/pro-discrete-op-amp-ss2590/

They are single op amps so I’ll need 2 by 2 https://sparkoslabs.com/product/pro-to-dual-dip8-adapter/

The PRO to DUAL adapter allows the SS2590 to replace Dual DIP8 op amps. So it’s a stack, Dual dip 8/ SS2590/ Dual dip 8/ SS2590

The Sparkos are wider than the Bursons, so I’ve also ordered the Burson 35mm Extension Lead x 2, so hopefully that, or some DIP8 sockets will lift the Sparkos up to allow the Sparkos to fit. https://www.bursonaudio.com/product/35mm-extension-lead-x-2/

If anyone has any advice on whether the sparkos will fit in my Conductor 3X reference let me know. But I am going to take the lid off and have a look and measure.

Another question. The V6’s are 29mm tall. Does anyone know how much extra spare height is there between the top of the Op amp and the case lid?

I’ve had advice that the Sparko SS3602 dual Discrete Op Amp will fit. But I’d just like to really make sure the Pro doesn’t fit first before buying the SS3602. Why not go for the best?

My C3XR came with the Vivid V6. I've ordered a pair of the Classic V6 to try too. Once I get the Sparkos and have listened to all three I'll post a review.

Also, does anyone know why Burson say don't change the Op Amps in the I/V stage, but replace them in the L/P stage?

Cheers

Sam

If not for the fitting issue, I would go for SS2590 too. Right now happy using SS3502

I am using SS3602x4 on my C3X, great improvement already. Look forward to you SS2590.

I think I have 3 possible fitting solutions. I'll post on what works but here are the ideas:

1) Use Burson's 35mm riser and/or dip8 sockets to lift the Sparkos pro up to give clearance
https://www.bursonaudio.com/product/35mm-extension-lead-x-2/
https://www.bursonaudio.com/checkout-2/

2) The Burson's 35mm riser might be flexible or bendable so do that
3) Get two dip/socket risers and solder them together with 8 short runs of insulated wire. That will give me a flexible mount for the LP socket on the right and I can lean the Sparko dual Pro stack away from the Burson IV op amps on the left. If I pick the right gauge of wire it should support the Sparko op amp stack in the air, away from the other components.

Oh and just to clarify more:

Burson said to me with my Conductor 3X Reference: "The Conductor 3XR uses 4 dual opamps. 2 for the I/V stage and 2 for L/P stage. Change over the V6 Classic dual in the LP stage will be fantastic for your unit." So that means leave the Vivids in the I/V stage

So Burson advised me to only change the LP stage and leave the V6 vivids in the IV stage. Lachlan at passion for sound said the same thing in one of his youtube reviews. I'll see if I can chase up that link.

So you might only have to change 2 op amps to get a good result.

I tried the flexible leg extensions with Burson's discrete but ended up causing a break in at least one of the 8 wires so be careful with them on the large Sparkos Labs Pro 2590s.

I have the Sparkos SS3601 and SS3602 but never could find a way to try their 2590 Pro version due to its size.

I just ordered bthe 1612 and 1611 on the adapter boards as I have heard very good things about them.

After more research and talking to andy at sparkos and alex at burson I'm almost certan I'll be able fit the sparko pro op amps in my C3Xref. Even if i have to solder two dip 8 sockets together with short pieces of wire so its completely flexible. But ii don't think it will come to that.
