I happened upon this fork of SoX the other day, where someone has gone through the effort to add some basic DSD compatibility:

There's also an AUR repository available:

I haven't tried PCM→DSD yet, but DSD→PCM worked up to DSD256 for me, with both DSF and DFF test files. Figured I'd mention this for the 2 other people who might be interested.
