Hello,

I guess this question was asked before but it would is much easier to to ask again than to find the answer.

I'm a "tube amp" dummy.  Please let me know if I can use different tubes if they fit the same base (same number of pins and spaces between the pins) on my amp.

Thank you very much.

Hi guys,
I too have just discovered the beauty of going Mother Russia, the 1578 and 1579 are some of the best sounding tubes that I run. They really have a very nice mid, open and wide soundstage though the bass could be a bit lacking for some, for me, I think its just right.

I have in my arsenal Ken Rad VT231, Sylvania VT229, GE 6SL7, 6188 JAN, metal base 1579 from MELZ, normal base 1579 from Melz. Currently waiting to take delivery of the FOTON 1578 NOS tubes. (Just to get a feel of the 1578 sound) I will be getting the 1578 MELZ Hole tubes soon as well when they become available from my seller on eBay. (Currently no stock)

I am saving up to get TS Round plates as well. These are also touted to be excellent. I have never heard them though.

The 1578 is a MELZ tube with metal base and holes in the anode, if someone is trying to sell you a 1578 Foton it's not legit.

I bought my genuine 1578 from this seller, 100% legit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163458583392?ViewItem=&item=163458583392

I'd rank the genuine 1578 above a Marconi / Osram B65 which i had, and also rank it above my 6SN7 Brimar's (both clear glass and black glass)

1950's Foton 6N8S is one of the great sounding 6SN7 equivalents and beats most western tubes.

I've had some luck running 6N1P's with an adaptor in place of 6SN7's in my Schiit Lyr 3

NEVZ 6N1P-VI from the '60's sounds surprisingly good
Orel 6N1P from '70's sounds even better and trounces some of the more expensive 6SN7's
