Southern California Meet - Saturday, August 24th

Aug 21, 2024 at 5:00 PM Post #61 of 78
There is a different spot, at this time I can only reveal the zip code for now: Los Angeles, CA 90025

Alex sadly had to close his regular office but immediately proposed this option that we have been pending on since Friday.

It's not confirmed yet (waiting on booking the room for final final confirmation due to a higher priority client) but we should know soon.

I will reveal the location when I am able to - sorry I can't provide more yet!

Thanks for the update, sir! Hopefully you hear back soon.

Pleaee park in the lot two driveways down from all the named reserved one when you get here.

Buzz the green door when you get here. Let them know you’re here for the listening session in the auditorium.

I couldn’t find the parking :(

I couldn’t find the parking :frowning2:

It’s three stops down from the green door on Butler . Not the studio parking, or the customer parking, but the one right after. Look for a white Volkswagen Passat Wagon and you should find it., it’s on the left side street.

I had an amazing time today hanging out at The Village Studios!

A BIG THANK YOU to Alex Rosson and Sebastian Chiu for managing to get this place to open its doors to a lucky few of us Head-Fi'ers.

And another 'thank you' to Alex for giving us a quick but fantastic tour of the Studios (no photos allowed, unfortunately).

And I also got to hear two headphones that really impressed me.

The first one is the Focal Haydenys. This $699 headphone has near spot-on tuning to my ear, and even at relatively high listening levels with bass-heavy songs, it didn't appear to suffer from any of the driver over-excursion issues that have plagued all of the other Focal headphones that use the M-shaped metal cone drivers. And it was quite light and comfortable to wear, which is another plus. The Haydenys are a great mid-level headphone to get into this hobby with.

And the second one is the FIR Audio E12. At $1800, these things are crazy-expensive for a 1DD IEM. But OMG, do they sound amazing! These are now #1 on my list for end-game level SQ. They had all of the resolution of the best all-BA IEMs I've heard but with none of the BA-timbre coloration that I'm extremely sensitive to. I was truly blown away by how good they sounded. And they are really easy to drive, so you don't need a super-powerful (and super-expensive) DAP to make them sing. They sounded amazing from my Questyle M15i dongle. If you're in the market for a TOTL IEM in the $2K-and-up range, try to give the E12 a listen. They just might surprise you in a very good way!

This meet-up was so much fun and a great teaser for all of the Head-Fi goodness that will be coming to the SoCal Can-Jam next month. I can't wait!!

I'm still at my Head-fi upload limit so I'll post pics later but, can confirm that my man is going to throw money at the E12.

Wanted to share some pictures and experience.

Thanks again to Sebastien and Alex for arranging for the meet up.

Village Studios was legit fun to walk through and the walls were covered in records.

My favorite of the entire day, though, was the FiR Radon 6/RN6.

Holy moly, that is a special set. That's going to fly around in my head forever now with how special that sounded to me.

It's been added to my short end game list and I think I could be content with just having only that to listen to forever. I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a tour or find a way to buy a set (sooner than later).

Such a cool experience! Wish I could have made it to meet some more local enthusiasts and I hope @XERO1 brought his awesome modded TH-X00. Looking forward to CanJam where I can hopefully get to meet some fellow Head-Fiers in person and put faces to names.
