I was experimenting with the volume levels on my source lately and I noticed a phenomenon.
I typically listen with my Gilmore Lite at around 9:30 (with most recordings), and my Fubar II USB DAC source at 100%. Today I tried turning down my source, and I noticed that the top 30% of the volume levels in my source provide a much more drastic change in volume than anything below that, almost as if the volume level coming out of my source is exponential.
When the DAC volume is reduced to 40%, it is nearly indaudible.
I would've taken this as normal behavior, but I lowered the volume on my laptop speakers in a similar fashion and discovered to my surprise that there is sound coming out of the speakers at 10%. Not to mention, increasing the volume level up from 10% on my laptop speakers yields a much more linear increase in volume all the way up to 100%.
Does anyone have an explanation for this?
