Source for Apple Music

Wow, read a few random pages of your thread, what a journey! Even if I'm retired, I really don't have the patience and time to go through all you've been through! haha. I think I will let a few months pass and see if other manufacturers will come up with "Apple music" direct streamers to compete against the Eversolo solution, hopefully either without a built-in DAC or even better with an internal R2R DAC! A high-end open Android with R2R DAP like Hiby RS8 could probably make me happy sound wise but the idea of spending a few thousands on a DAP is difficult for me ideologically speaking! hahaha
Hi, also interested in a good source for Apple Music, now I run musician audio Pegasus to my aegis and love it, feeding it through my iPad Pro, leaning towards the DMP-A8, also looking into the Orchid 69SE S2, do you think that would be a similar experience as Pegasus r2r wich I really enjoy.. I just emailed Jiun and he has it in stock, so really tempted 🤗, can’t stand delta sigma DACs.. R2R with aegis is wonderful 👌

Can't talk about Pegasus as I never heard it. I think it's difficult to go wrong with the Orchid at it's price but only if you are willing to spend a bit more and get a decent tube that meets your taste. I've rolled quite a few in my Orchid and ended up with the top one MHDT recommends, the WE396A. Different tubes make quite a difference in this DAC. Anyway, I have mine for 5-6 years now and it's the only piece of equipment I don't feel a need to change.

I have been using iTunes / Apple Music since it came on scene with my various iPods over the years. I have uploaded all my CDs to iTunes back in the day. While I also use Tidal and Quboz (recently added), I still prefer iTunes. My current streamer is a Mac Mini M2 Pro since it just works for my application. I tried the Eversolo DMP-A6 as a streamer only since I preferred my Schiit Bifrost 2/64 DAC over the internal DAC of the A6. Even using the A6 as a streamer I found the sound too harsh and fatiguing for my setup. I connected the A6 to my Bifrost 2/64 via USB and Coaxial and sound coming through my Denon AH-D9200 headphones was still harsh / fatiguing. I kept the A6 for 3 weeks before returning it to Amazon. My setup consists of the following:

Streamer: Mac Mini M2 Pro

DAC: Schiit Yggdrasil+ OG (replaced the Bifrost 2/64 this past Saturday)

EQ: Schiit Lokius

Amps: Schiit Folkvangr, Schiit Mjolnir 3

Headphones: Denon AH-D9200 and Sennheiser HD650

Great setup👍 I tried my MacBook Pro m3, but it’s not bitperfect so I currently use my iPad Pro m1 to dac.. thanks for input on Eversolo, I’m also looking for upgrade dac, been looking at Lab12 dac1 reference and newontech dac 07.. anyone tried them?

Wow, nice Schiit stack, love the EQ and amp! :beerchug:

Maybe your Bifrost and Yggdrasil DACs have a better USB implementation than my MHDT Orchid because I clearly get better sound when using my Node2i coax out to the DAC than using my Macbook USB to the DAC. I would be surprised that an older Node2i produces better sound as source then the modern Eversolo.

I'm not happy to add a new box to my setup but the more I think about it and the more I'm going to get myself a DDC. I love the sound of my DAC so why change it.

Maybe this year we'll see more manufacturers build great R2R DACs that don't need an additional DDC to process the USB connection at the same level as coax in. This way we could continue to use our beloved Apple computers and phones for source.

Why do you say the USB of your Macbook Pro is not bit perfect and your iPad is? I didn't know this one, I'll have to do a test to see if I get better sound coming from my iPad vs Macbook.

Yes, Apple Music on MacOs do not output bit perfect you have to manually adjust it in midi settings.. And comparing SQ I prefer the iPad Pro over the MacBook
