Okay, so i'm impatient waiting for the Zhaolu Dac to come out. as i'm reading those various threads on it i get this idea: why not open up my soundcard and replace the opamp inside it?
well for one thing i dont' know what i'm doing....but since i'm not that enamored to this soundcard i think i'ts worth a try....
I opened it up and i think i've found it: it looks just like all the other opamps... and some other output chips i dont' like. and they look just like the pictures in the zhaolu dac...okay, so is it just a question of removing it and putting in a new one?

If you don't know what your doing then don't do it. I don't know why i am writing this but i do know it wont do any harm. You could though so don't meddle until you are proficient. You could bugger the rest of your gear. Jim.

I know, that's where i got the idea; if an emu could be modded why not an M-Audio? i'm hoping some of them could help me out here. But thanks...this gives me more confidence

Why not take a digital picture of your board, and post it here. Someone may be able to tell you where the analog stage is, what opamps to try, etc.

i am reading this: dac goes to a chip, that chip then goes to the opamp (24LC64, I/POHM, 0424). The output chip (5532) is getting signals from the 5532 chips that is near the volume output control and from the Dac. the opamp is giving signal to the 5532 and MIDI or something.
Okay, what does SDout analog refer to?
