Source differences and headphones vs speakers

I respect Uncle_Erik's responses a lot, but I disagree here. Maybe he's lucky with the speakers/amps combo he got. Some budgets speakers are great and they do, in fact, meets most of our needs.. But, so is the budget headphones. You are comparing one of the best, most expensive headphones right now to a budget speaker/amp setup.

I bought my two pair of speakers for $4000, and that's not even a high-end. One of my friend bought a platinum one for $15000. His amp is also $9900. Once you reached the certain point, you do not get so much from the money you spent on. I think the same thing can be said about both systems here.

Give the HD650 with decent quality amp along with your current headphone setup. Most people would still be happy with HD650 setup which costs the fraction of what their current stereo system is.

The speakers are actually brighter it's just that the HD600s have a more detailed top end. I still think it does have something to do with headphones and speakers because of that 'aura' (for lack of a better word) I described. I get it with headphones and can hear that it's different between ALAC and MP3 but I don't get it with the speakers.

My speakers sound much more dynamic and "alive" than my headphones. It's all physics.
