Obviously the 580, 600, and 650 are technically superior to the 497s that I have now, but how do their sound signatures compare? People say that the 580/600/650s are laid back. I have never noticed this with the 497s so if the 580/600/650 series is about the same as far as how forward the presentation is I shouldn't have a problem. I plan to purchase a headsave classic with the AD8620/10 opamps and a 24v power supply and a chaintech av710 to go along with whatever can out of the 580/600/650 series i eventually decide to buy. If you think that the 580/600/650 series is too laid back what headphones are close to the 497s sound?

read it wrong, your asking if their sound is close to the 580,600,650, and not if they closed type.

from what i read here the 595's are nice but 580s are also nice but can be had for less.

that said the 600 and 650's are better respectively but also go up in price in the same manner.

so if money isnt the issue, just jump to the 650's.

A guess.

HD497 actually close in sheer sound signature to HD580/600.
On the contrary, actually difficult to associate to HD595/650 for that matter.
