I've been listening to my SR5 for a week. It sounds a little too bright (?) to me, or maybe something with the treble region, makes it fatiguing at times. Is it just me, or do you guys notice similar characteristics?

I've tried a few tips: final e, spinfit cp145&w1, azla xelastec, feaulle h570, fiio hs18. No luck.

There are two possibilities first is upper mid fatigue which is cause by 3hz, which is less likely when compared to definition fatigue around 7-8khz. And this is the main reason you see some kind of dip around 5-7khz for almost all IEMs.

95% of people has pinna gain from 2.5khz to 3.5khz, and they likely to feel fatigue from 5khz-7khz.

I’m suspecting you are sensitive to 7khz level.

You may try Final E tips which tames that area. You can search “Final Audio Design E500” that entry level bullet IEM is pretty neutral and comes with full set of final E tips.

If you still feel fatiguing, you may consider JUZEAR 41T, treble energy is lower than SR5

Thanks a lot! I do have final e tips but they don't help much with the fatigue. They do feel very comfortable and give natural clean sound. They are my go-to tip for most of my IEMs.

I'll try EQ and see how that goes.

Don’t underestimate the bump in the pinna gain too. SR5’s going to sit a little forward which makes the treble energy pop a little more. 41T looks more relaxed all the way through

Thank you for your twitter subscription! I’ve got 40 followers in a day😳 Wow that’s more than the head-fi followers I have accumulated over past 15 years.

Anyway.

This 14BA flagship of SR looks a lot better than promo picture.

Hope I can post impressions soon.
Changed Ear tip to H570 from stock and now bass resonance is much more natural. It comes with same mid-boost stock cable as DTE500, so I may need to change it to Null Audio Ethos MKV at some point.(tried and didn’t like the pair). So far Incredibly a $16 NiceHCK MixPP has good synergy with SR8😳

Currently my first encounter feedback to this 14BA IEM is “a flagship sound”. Not embarrassed as Sound Rhyme —the new generation of cost to performance disrupter—Flagship.

Tracks like this contains lots of musical factors which SR8 could render it with amazing overtone richness and layering to even lower range that is worth to note at first sight.

If you like the micro vs macro balance of SR5, the 14BA Flagship SR8 boost that to the level it can convince hardcore audiophiles that Sound Rhyme is offering a TOTL IEM that if other brands were to offer above $3,000USD.

The reason why I stated $3000 is that based on my personal unit of qdc Anole VX that costed me around $2700, SR8 although belongs to different spectrum of sovereignty, surpassed VX in terms of technicalities especially for lower range.

I don’t know how to appreciate Penon and head-fiers who recommend me to Penon in an opportunity in review this actually prestigious flagship. But yes SR8 is indeed “Best Sounding” IEM that I have right now, before that position was Anole VX, now overwritten by SR8.

I will post an initial impression later on Sound Rhyme thread.

If SR5 is a SR71 Blackbird, and DTE500 is a F35 Lightning, SR8 is a flying dragon.

Looking forward to more about this one, I believed Neon Pro had a very high price to performance ratio. But this might push it into the ceiling, any measurements except the one you linked here? The one here seem to not show any peak enhancing the air?

There is another measurement

As usual manufacture’s FR is very unreliable, the one above represents more accurate one for SR8.

Air region is there, following natural diffusion n neutral curve👍 I personally prefer a bit more than that, so I used MixPP too enhance 10khz a bit and now we are talking about the business😁

If Neon Pro is an expert on spine chilling treble monster, SR8 has major performance focused on lower end, and leaving treble section neutral.

Here are the current honest pricing IEMs on the market (available to international market)

GS Audio ST10 ($430)’s spec:
10BA 4way crossover 3 tubes
Sub-woofer | Sonion 38 AcuPass (2BA)
Bass-Mid | Sonion 37 (2BA)
Mid-Treble | Sonion 2389D (2BA)
Super Tweeter | Knowles SWFK 31736 (4BA)

Aur Audio Neon Pro($730)’s spec:
10BA 4 way crossover 3 tubes
Sub-woofer | Sonion 38 AcuPass (2BA)
Bass-Mid | Sonion 37 (2BA)
Mid-Treble | Sonion 28 (2BA)
Super Tweeter | Knowles SWFK31736(?) (4BA)

Sound Rhyme SR8 ($749)’s spec:
14BA 4(or more?) way crossover 4 tubes
Sub-woofer | Sonion 38 AcuPass (4BA)
Lo-Mid | Knowles 30265 (4BA)

Hi-Mid | Knowles ED29689 (2BA)
Super Tweeter | Knowles SWFK 31736 (4BA)

Sound Rhyme DTE500 ($459) spec:
4way crossover 3 acoustic tube

▶︎UHF/HF | 2 x Sonion EST65 powered by Empire Ears developed Voltage multiplier EIVEC
▶︎Hi-MID | 1 x High BA : Knowles ES30095
▶︎Lo-MID | 1 x Mid BA (Sonion 2300
▶︎BASS | 1 x 3-layer composite DD ( Sound like the one used on MEST MKII), same to MEST MKII, it has driver flex as a side effect

Sound Rhyme SR5 ($149)’s spec:
4BA+1 3way crossover 3 tubes
Sub-woofer | 10mm high polymer DD
Mid | Knowles ED29689 (2BA)
Super Tweeter | Knowles SWFK 31736 (2BA)

14 Proper high-end BAs for $749 is currently lowest possible offer that I know of.

You can see SR8 has 8BA for lower range, and that’s not just on paper, I forgot I was listening to a BA driver after a while, very powerful that AcuPass x4 impact is.

the Mid is also super dense, which will be the fundamentals of rich overtone and mid harmonics.

I’m in doubt if wait retuned DTE900 or go with DTE500🤭 but EST50 calls me such for a long time.
Hard choice😅

If it helps my review on EST50 just need some editing, give me a week. Have comparisons to SA6, Serial, BC 2023, ISN H30. And in my NP review I have comparison to the NP and EST50 if you had that one :relaxed:

So much I want to buy lately, in next week I have the AüR AURE and I am on the list for the first 10 of the AURORA also. But I also want in on the Sound Rhyme fun, I will probably wait for the retune of the DTE900 to see where it goes.

After 3 hours of listening, I have a better understanding.

At the beginning when I imagined a full stack 14BA, I imagined somewhat heavy in transients, like driving a heavy semi-truck with huge engine, but SR8 turns out to be very nimble and it doesn’t let you feel you are driving a heavy-truck, it’s as light a carbon-fiber monocoque hypercars with huge engine.

I looked at spec sheet and realized SR8 scores 4.5ohm@120db. 14BA with 4.5ohms and 120db sensitivity? Wow no wonder it’s as nimble as single BA.

I got my SR8 coming on Monday. Ill do a small comparo with the Trailii bird clones ie Penon Impact, Alambic Ears Mentawai, AüR Audio Alita.

I cannot wait plus Im grabbing the SR1 Single DD for bassheads. Sr5/dte500 have been home runs so far.

Nice first impression, now i'm checking my wallet

Anyway pure BA (10+ and well tuned) definitely the best for IEMs, and yes i have a bunch of totl iem and i prefer pure BA than tribrid or hybrid, the only exception is YS Sword
