Two different headphones, one over and the other on the ear. Assuming one can get both for the same price, which is the best for all round sound quality?

I own both (HP-RX990 is currently in pieces).
In most areas, the HP-RX900 is usually costing 60% more then the HA-S500.
Is this for home and/or portable use?

Thanks! I guess I will go with the RX900.
This is for home use, I guess the RX900 is too big to take out. What is the difference in comfort like between the two?
