Alright. I'm working on getting a group together to pitch in on building a computer strictly for recording music. I'm not looking for studio quality, but I'd love to have the ability to record fairly high quality demos.

Any suggestions on what sound cards would be good? We'd prefer to record by mic'ing the amps and drums, so any suggestions for other necessary equipment would be greatly appreciated also.

Xonar STX will work as well, If your in the USA www,jr.com sells one for $179, last time I checked D2X was still $199. If you need those 8 pin connectors for guitars, musical keyboards then a sound card like a Emu 0404 or M-audio would be your only choice. Tho I have used a electric guitar Thu the line in on a Xonar HDAV1.3 and It didn't have any issues at all with Audi-city.  Something cheaper like a Xonar DG or DS should also work. Also which ever program you will use I sure will support ASIO which you can use for low latency.
