Sony just announced their new ps2, known as the SCPH-7000, which is 75% smaller, 50% lighter, and 60% thinner.
it comes with network adaptor built-in, but soo far no HDD support. comes out at November 1 in North America at $149

I really like how small/cool it looks, and the price sounds just right. my old ps2 is getting old anyway (excuse

That looks small enough that they couldn't squeeze a fan inside there. That could be the biggest advantage yet.

Where's the button that lets you launch nukes? The original didn't have it, I kinda felt ripped off.

What about the important details.........new performance specs!

The slim design is nice and all but what changes have been made to enhance
speed/performance and by how much? Can't find any info on this.

I thought that the PS3 was already on the drawing board. What's the point unless you just have to have one?

If they enhanced anything, it could cause compatibility issues. I doubt they changed a thing other than remove parts of the system board that were not used.

There are already at least a few revisions of the ps2.

Supposingly those revisions included minor upgrades as well as bug fixes for things like dvd compatibility. I could see them using slightly faster chips with the newer machines but not mentioning much as to not upset current owners.

You may be right but.....

There must be a new disc drive being used here in new slim PS2 model, surely must be faster read times than original drive which is a few years old now? (If not what a wasted opportunity)

Also memory amount/speed would be easy to ugrade without changing game software.

If there is no performance change I'm not going to buy new unit just to have slimmer design.
