What applications will you be using your mp3 player for? Cell phone will weight more and be more delicate than that sony will. If you ever intend to be active or gym it a little, I would probably keep the mp3 player.

I will never, ever, ever trade in my Sony for an iPod.  I owned an ipod touch for a while but I sold the touch because the sound wasn't great and I got tired of the apps quite quickly.  
 
The difference in quality between the two is huge.
