Hello All,

IS $375 for a Sony SCD222ES SACD player a good price for a private sale? os is this a rip off?

The Seller states that the unit is new, And i am planning to call him later to talk about buying it. Should I try to get him to drop the price or is this a fair price?

I don't know whether that is good, but I'll tell you that a local dealer near me (www.domesav.com) is selling a demo C222 for $200!!...I was like...whoa, that was last month, so I don't know if they still have it, if they do, I'll get my parents to buy it for my birthday.

OH!!...

I went to DOMES today, and they sold the C222ES, but there was a JA20ES MD deck, I was like...WHOA...and listened to Tim Reynolds (SP??) rip it up "Live at Luther College" in 5.1, it was awesome from the Athena HDD player and Athena Receiver...to the KEF $3k floorstanders and corresponding center and rears...and the Velodyne DD-1200...One part, the disc they recorded from was scratched and there was a loud pop, it scared the crap out of me because the Velodyne shook the room

My NX10 sound like crap compared to that system (no suprise), but they had the Acrylic Velodyne HGS-10 for $800...too bad I don't have that, or it'd be mine.

The regular "new" price for a 222ES is $400, I think. I sold mine for $340 shipped not too long ago, and used prices can generally be seen for $300-$325 on Audiogon in most instances. So it depends on whether you really want a *new* player or a slightly used one.

It really depends. I was *very* lucky (and quick!) to get a SACDmods 222ES on A'gon for under $500. Now that was a deal. $200 is very good. I think the build quality of the 222 is very high at this price point. My Marantz is not nearly as well built and it was around the same price when new.

Well Downtown Audio claims to have them at $349 and Elegant Audio Video has them for $419, and this is not including shipping.

I dont know the reputation of these stores, but at least if they are legit, I have the warranty (if in stock).

I hope I get to talk to this guy and work out the particulars.

If I buy, then I wil let you guys know.

I paid $350.00 for mine including shipping last month from eBay. The unit was/is in mint condition, and not able to find a new one anywhere I inquired, I thought this was a fair price.

Well I guess I will go for it then, seeing it is new and all!

I wish I could find some reviews on it though!!

To give you a mini review, I found the redbook abilities of the Music Hall CD25 to be superior to the SCD-C222ES, but the sacd capabilities were excellent. Not that I have anything to compare it to, but they're still nice.

Hi,
How much better is the CD25 to the SCD-222ES in redbook performance? Do you think the stock C555ES will be better than the CD25?

The CD25 is the best redbook player I've heard so far, though the NEC/DIO combo may be just as good (but I have a much different setup now, so comparison is difficult). The C222ES didn't have quite as much clarity in the reproduction, possibly from a lower quality DAC.

Can't comment on the C555ES.

The receipt that came with my used 222ES says $375. I got it for less than that when it was about 4 months old.

I can assure you that stock redbook performance is pretty crappy. Dont expect much. But modded it's totally on another level. I will have to check out other sources to see where it's at. Cheers.

Just a suggestion.

If you're planning on getting the unit modded, why not wait till you have the extra $150 and get the 555. A year from now when you're enjoying your fully tricked out 555,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,this extra waiting time won't mean anything. On the other hand, if you rush and get the 222, you'll always desire the 555 in the back of your mind. If the price difference was really far apart then I wouldn't be suggesting this but for $150 I think it's worth the wait.

Just a suggestion.

Good Luck!

Thanks stryker!

For those of us who are more financially challenged. The difference is a $1000 source $600 source. That can get you a nice amp or CD3000...
