Sony PHA-3 balanced portable dac/amp

Wait, how does that work? Everywhere else I see it for 1000USD. Can you comment on whether this is a legit site?

EDIT: I mean, I figure you aren't linking me to a site that's going to steal my identity. But what's the catch?

Don't know, they seem legit, I ordered a pair of XBA-A3 tonight, we'll see how it goes! Haha!

I'd heard of others from Head-Fi ordering from them

Also, I think the prices went down for some of the Sony stuff just recently.

Thanks for the heads-up! It looks like it's more or less legit:

Does anyone have the specs on the output power (balanced and unbalanced) into impedances higher than 32Ohms? The impedance of the Z7 is itself 70Ohm.

Into 32ohm it outputs

100mw + 100mw in normal single output

320mw + 320mw in balanced output

As 70ohm is 218.75% of 32ohm I think the general thing is to half the output when you double the ohms.

So 32ohm gets dual 100mw/320mw

So 70ohm would get less than half of that.
100 divided by 2.1875 = 45.7mw
320 divided by 2.1875 = 146.28mw

But if that's not the case am sure it's about half :)

Edit; thinking about it, I know in high end amps when it says 100w into 8ohm and then 200w into 4ohm (such as krell amps)

But lesser amps seam to go with a 50/60% difference instead of a 100% difference

Like it says 80w into 8ohm but then 120w into 4ohm

So maybe it depends on the build of the power delivery/supply or something...

Can anybody tell me if this will be a good amp for IEMs? I have UE 18 Pro and was told that since that specific IEM is super sensitive and easy to drive, I wont necessarily need top of the line amp for it anyways. True?

I want to see if this will be a good upgrade from my FiiO E12A / UE 18 Pro combo.

Thanks

I've read that many people have successfully used PHA-3 with Samsung Note 4.

What kind of cable should I use for that combo?

Do you guys think a micro USB to micro USB cable will work?
I'm thinking about ordering a Hi-fi version of that cable for PHA-3 and Note 4 combo.

If that's the case, it seems pretty limp.

The PHA-3 comes with an Android OTG cable. I'm using it on my Note3. It also has a Walkman cable for the A17...

So, what kind of OTG cable is it? is it a simple micro USB to micro USB cable?
Do you think I can ask companies like Moon Audio to create a hi-fi version of that cable?

It has an extra pin on the PHA-3 end. I assume that it has something to do with power. The Walkman cable has the sane configuration on  the PHA-3 end.

My understanding is that they haven't. Which is a dealbreaker for me.

Can anyone test this??

Does PHA-3 automatically charge while it's playing from PC or a smartphone?

5 hours battery life isn't good enough.

I'm pretty sure it's listed in the specs that it can't. You get more than 5 hours if you use it as DAC only, but even then you're depleting the battery without charging. Add to that the seemingly powerless output and you have an incomprehensible device. Or so it seems. I would love to learn different. Learn what it's supposed to do.
