I just reinstalled windows XP.

When I plug my walkman in, it does not give me any option to format, nor does it show the battery level, nor can it play a track directly from it through my winamp...

Is there a driver I'm missing?

edit: Actually now when i plug in the player, the player says "connecting", then right after the progress bar full lights up, my player disconnects and goes back to player mode....

Have you tried formatting it through the player 'settings' menu? You shouldn't try and do it through Windows Explorer, you could mess it up and render it unusable.

Soozieq is right, always best to use the players format option. Don't know about the 728 in particulair, but at least in the past most if not all Sony DAPs could be bricked using windows format.
