Im looking at it for its battery life, anyone familiar with the sound quality? I have the e4cs and want a lil more bass than what my iPod produces....

I have a HD3. In 700+ tracks about 7 have a slight background hiss. Drowned out if I turn up volume. Tried various 'phones + bitrates. no change.

Not enough to put me off my HD3. But enough to stop me buying Sony, unless they come out with a "killer" DAP. contradictory, I know

It is there, though. One thing for sure is I wouldn't buy another sony DAP if it has that hiss because even though once the song starts and true the hiss goes away, when it winds down its there again and all I can think is how does a $350 player sound like a frikkin' tape casette Walkman?!?

If you don't want to lose sound quality, the HD3 / 5's out of the running. However if you want more bass than your iPod and are willing to sacrifice sound quality, either will work.
