They do sound better after a while, but after trying more neutral phones, and then going back, it is apparent just how bad the bass overpowers the general sonic range. If you are looking for some thump down there, these are cool. I still use them when I'm listening to hip-hop but need to use an earbud.
But there's much better options, a lot of them being the same price or cheaper.
And for slightly higher, you can upgrade to some er6is. For only $20-30 more than what the EX71 goes for, this is a big leap. But, if you like bass thump, I think the EX71 is gonna give you more of that.
Compared to another Sony, the E888, these things are muddy and lack detail to me. Hope this helps. There's plenty of info around here for great alternatives.
