Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Sony MDR-XB1000 (coupled to an Arcam rPac DAC/Amp), which I really like coming from an AKG K701 which was way too bass light for my tastes, but I was wondering something: are the cables really detachable?

Stock pic for those who don't know what the XB1000 looks like (it's my first post so I can't insert a picture): http://i.imgur.com/Ek2Guqa.jpg

I know this sound like a dumb question, but while it isn't mentioned anywhere on the manual or on the Sony product page it really looks like they're detachable. I googled it but had very few results - two guys mention this, though:
- A review which mentions "detachable cables on both cups".
- One guy on Head-Fi.

I tried pulling a bit on them / unscrewing them, but they're not moving an inch, and I don't want to go brute force and destroy my headphones 2 days after having bought them, obviously.

Any idea? Is it really detachable? Should I pull them firmly, try to unscrew them?

Thanks :)

The HeadRoom specs page says:

Specifications:

  1. Sensitivity: 106 dB
  2. Manufacturer Warranty: 1 Year
  3. Headphone Type: Full Size
  4. Weight: 375 grams w/o cord
  5. Isolation: -14dB ~ 21dB
  6. Detachable Cable: No
  7. Impedance @ 1kHz: 24 Ohms
  8. Cord Length: 6ft
  9. Cord Type: Straight Y
  10. Ear Coupler Type: Full-Size
  11. Driver Type: Dynamic
  12. Acoustic Seal: Closed

So my guess is no, it's not.

Also, one users YouTube review specifically says that they're not detachable (around the 1:15 mark)

Thank your for your answer! Okay, it makes sense then that it doesn't seem to move at all. Too bad...

Really odd that some people were saying it was detachable, don't know why they'd be thinking that.
