I read many raving reviews abouth those here, and I had a chance to try a pair today. They look cool, they fit well, they reveal detail - and that's about it. Sound is way too bright, openly harsh, with some muddy DJ bass and no mid-bass at all.

And I compared them with my cheapo 20$ blue-tack modded Senn HD201?!

You've just described few of V6's main limitations. May be you're Senn HD280 kinda guy or you can try Audio Technica ATH-A500.

Me too. I had HD201, tried the V6 hoping it would be a nice upgrade...no way. It was much too bright and fatiguing. Sold the V6, kept the HD201...

Yep...

I've had them for years now, and used to like them. I got a new pair of speakers (Sansui S-917, loving them), and ended up listening to them and my KSC-35 for a couple of months, and when I went back to the V6 after that, I found them to be pretty much unusuable for music listening.

I was lucky enough to have a AKG K240M fall into my lap soon after though, and I'm much happier with it. I may still use the V6 for some things, but not for general music enjoyment.

If you thought the V6 was "way to bright", I'm sure there are plenty of cans around here you'd like. Personally, I tried them out (mine wre the Sony 7506's, which I'm told are exactly the same heaphones) vs my k81dj, and I really enjoyed them. The 7506's had the shine and detail in the upper end that was missing from my k81dj's, while they lacked a little of the impact and bass of the 81's. If I could magically combine the two, I think I'd have my perfect headphone. :)

I have never found the 7506 bright. I find this is a headphone that provides plenty of detail without having to turn up the volume. Since I do not listen to it at high volumes, that may be why it does not bother my ears. I think the Grado 225s are much worse.

Yup. Depending on the synergy of the source (player), type of music, recording,
sensitivity to high frequencies (age) they (7506/V6/CD900ST) can sound harsh or involving; hence the differences of opinion. I've heard them sound good and bad in different systems. Maybe the Beyer DT250 80/250 ohms
might work better for you.
