Hello Head-Fiers,

I bought the captioned headphones back in the early 1990s I think. They were highly rated at the time by some "expert". How does these headphones stack up against currently available higher end headphones?

Thanks,

They're a real workhorse, with a pleasing all-around sound, with a mid-range spike. They're very decent as lower-cost closed phones are concerned.

I prefer the Audiotechnica ES7 for additional treble character and good looks, and the AKG K81DJ has more of a slap. Both fold up like a DJ phone. After a few years, the Sony pads will have to be replaced, no question, and SQ will deteriorate without them. However, I prefer open designs over closed, so airier phones (like the lower range Grados) provide a bit more space. In other words, the V6 still stands up for casual use; their comfort and decent sound are hard to ignore.

How much money would one have to spend today to improve upon the Sony model?
