i was looking around ebay and found sony mdr-ex700. what do you guys think about these phones? most of the sellers are from china. on amazon they sell for 160 a pair. on ebay they can go as low as 6 a pair. would they make fake sony headphones only to make literally a few bucks?

The genuine sony ex700lp's are not very good. There are issues with the treble quality due to sibilance, and can sound very harsh. I own a pair and prefer listening to the IE8's way more than the ex700s. The only good thing about getting them is getting the sony hybrids that came with it. Other than that, it's complete garbage.

I'd agree - real or fake, the EX700's are very disappointing and not worth the price. I had them for a month and despite all the burning in they were still harsh, without really any engaging sound. There are many many other better options.

Beside the sound quality. You can not get a good seal; even you can, it's not a good choice when you want to block out noise.
