this is a very easy mod and i guarantee you will like it.

1. take your e888 earbuds and remove the foamies.
2. remove the rubber ring around the earbuds.
3. remove the metal grills off the drivers.
4. if there is a paper filter over the drivers, remove that too.
5. the metal drivers will be exposed. put the foamies back on.
6. enjoy!

you should be hearing lots of bass, no shrillness and all that great e888 detail and midrange.

update with better pics on page 3!

instead of a paper filter, you will find a thin cloth mesh underneath the grilles of the e868.

you might not want to do that. there is no 'filter' under the grilles. its just a piece of plastic.

enzo, do NOT try this with your mx400. YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR SENNS! i know from experience. the grill covers are attached to the drivers and will tear them apart.

i have taken apart both the e868 and e888, and they both have the grills glued in place with rubber cement. this means that you can pull the grills off without damaging them. i have neither bent the grills or damaged the earbuds doing this. you can reverse this mod completely if you want to.

of course, like all mods use common sense and be careful. your results might vary.

Can you put the rubber rings back on? Would you need them to keep everything in place under the foamies?

Have you tried the E888's amped? If so, how do they sound? I know they definitely don't need an amp, I'm just curious as to how amping them might change their sound.

you can put the rubber rings back on after, although it is not needed to keep everything together. you may want to put the rings back on so they stay wedged in your ears.

i have tried the e888 with the sr71 amp. there is an increase in dynamics and more detail, and more snap to the sound. i don't miss the amp when i don't use it with the e888, however.

after you remove the rings, grills, and filters you can store them in the e888 case in the compartment in the bottom.

That's an awsome idea. I now remeber about the extra space in the case I can't wait for mine to come from bluetin.

I haven't even recieved my CM7's (shipping is taking forever, damn Santa Claus) and I'm thinking of trying this mod out on them should the bass be lacking. Are the CM5's as easy to reassemble as the E888's?
