Hello!

Being a curious Australian, I did a search for CD1700s on yahoo shopping - something I don't normally do. Anyways, yahoo only returned one hit, but it looked like a goodie for those of you who may be in the market for some new and not-too-pricey headphones.

They are on sale for US$159! That seems like a steal given the great (w)rap many users give them here. I was under the impression they were discontinued

Sorry if this is old news, hopefully someone may get excited by this. I'd be curious to know if the store actually has them in stock!

When I emailed them on the 22nd, they had 3 pairs left. They also mentioned that the price would remain at 159 until they were gone. I was going to buy one of these, but I found something else for cheaper that I should be receiving in a few weeks...

BTW, why do I have the feeling that they now have 2 pairs left

How is CD1700 compare to CD3000? I read review on 1700 and said they are very close to 3000 or even better. CD 3000 is the second headphone on my shopping list. CD1700 may save me some money for an amp...

in my opinion, the two hardly compare at all. I absolutely hated the CD1700's when i listened to them. Who knows, maybe honky midrange and brittle treble grows on you...

I have no idea how the CD1700 treble could ever be called britlle. I mean, that treble is seriously clean and clear, sweet.

The midrage honky?? eh? which CD1700 you been listening to?

The CD1700 i have have the most liquid natural midrange of all other headphones i've tried, including RS-1 and HD600. There is definitely midrange emphasis in the freq response, but in no way does this manifest itself as being "honky".

I currently have both. The 3000 is a much better headphone. I think the 1700 is competative with anything in the ~ $150.00 range, but doesn't have the 3000's detail and slam. The soundstage is also smaller.

I like the 1700s better than the 3000s............the 3000s are too bright for my tastes right now. But that could change. And the 1700s are by far the most comfy pair of headphones I have.

As I understand it, the 1700 are closed headphones, right?

I'm wondering what would be the best closed headphones in this price range: 1700, Beyer 250-80, Beyer 831, etc?

I'm looking into getting a pair of very good closed cans under $200.

Macdef,

This is the only place where you can get the 1700, I have been looking for these headphones for almost a year, on ebay, everywhere. With no luck. Sometimes I would find them use, but for almost the retail price, which is $350. This is a killer deal, and me and Bootman got two of the three they had left, I don't know how they rack up against those other headphones, but if you want the 1700, here's maybe is your only chance to get them mint brand spanking new on the cheap!

Oh, and I updated my Headphone Lust page with a HUGE pic of the Sony MDR-CD1700!

BTW, how can I post a link with it only showing the name and not the addy?
