Sony MDR-7520

To eliminate creaking, this is what I did.  This completely eliminated creaking for me and still does to this day.  Just make sure to make it tight.  It will stiffen up the movement of the cups a bit, but that's a minor trade-off for completely eliminating creaking.

Mike, maybe you never eat while wearing the 7520?

Just tried it - with no music, just to make sure nothing was obscured. The only thing I could hear was the sound of me munching! I guess I might just be lucky, but as I said I suspect that more of them don't creak than do.

Haha! Well, yes you're lucky. Mine has started to creak but nothing I worry about. I can't chew while mixing on headphones (no matter if they creak or not), because chewing distracts from the task. I chew in the pauses.

Has somebody tried these ear pads for replacement?

So I have pulled the trigger and ordered these 3 weeks ago. They have arrived today. Build quality seems better than one can judge from the pictures, hopefully they will last quite some time. They definitely don't look like they'll go apart easily.

And I'm just listening right now, but so far I'm not sure if they sound different from the stock pads, that is very positive for me. But time will tell, and I'll surely post here how it goes, together with my recommendation / not-recommendation. Stay tuned!

Just got the MDR-7520 a few days ago to replace my MDR-CD900ST and yes you really need to burn them in good, as out of the box that muddy low end was overpowering everything else and sounded terrible (like MDR-7506 boomy).

I got it running for 47 hours straight now with the NW-ZX2 and I've noticed the sound starting to smooth out at around the 30th hour. Going to keep it running until it hits the 100th hour and see what happens. So far so good but I feel the overall sound is just not there yet (vocals still kind of recessed).

Also noticed the cup hinges started to creak after the headband has loosen up a bit, which doesn't really bother me (not like the Eggo MDR-D77 where they creak even when moving my eyes lol).

BTW I've also noticed the plastic cup hinges are made with a sparkle plastic material, seems to me this is SBMC/Cerasin stuff that is anti-resonance.

EDIT: I finally returned them, the mids just isn't there for me.

I am not allowed to post images yet so heres an imgur gallery. I joined to let you guys know about this. I have been lurking for years. https://imgur.com/a/LOqHF

Did you buy the:

Mogami 2552 Specialty 1/8" or 3.5 mm Select connector types, EHS-Built
Model/Part Number: 3.5-3.5-M2552
Price: $19.29
https://eventhorizon-srv.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3079

?

However, what did you specify to Support(noSpam)@eventhorizon-srv.com to get a customised locking 'Connector A', and what was the surcharge?

My Request
Hi I was wondering if it would be possible to get a cable with a locking trs 1/8 stereo on one end and a standard stereo 1/8 trs on the other. I have a pair of MDR 7520 headphones that use a cable like this but the included coiled one is too long and cumbersome.

 Hey Dylan,

Ok, here is the easiest way to do this:

Order this product with TS 1/4" Gold connector:
https://eventhorizon-srv.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_27_207&products_id=5093

Select length and shrink you desire. (no boot is applicable)

Put a note in at checkout to swap the TS 1/4" gold with an 1/8" gold and wire for the MDR-7520 headphones.

I will swap the wire to 2552 from 2319 when I build it.

All that will make the price about right for your cable.

That make sense? That is usually the easiest way to do special requests but if that is confusing I can write it up and do it manually.

Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks,
Brandon Spivey
