Hello.

When looking for the Mdr-7506 I found a page which listed Mdr-7502, Mdr-7505, Mdr-7506 and 7509.

Anyone know more about this? Are they all variations on V6?

Mateo, each of the MDR-750# series of headphones is different from each other. The 7502 uses the shell of the old MDR-V2, but uses MDR-V200 drivers. The MDR-7505 is a DJ headphone that uses the shell of the MDR-V500DJ, but uses drivers of the "old" (1996-2000) MDR-CD570. (My bad for calling the MDR-7505's a combination of the crappy MDR-V500DJ and MDR-V600.) The MDR-7506 and MDR-7509 are the MDR-V6 and MDR-V900, respectively, with what Gluegun calls "a better paint job".

As for the sound quality, definitely scratch out the MDR-7502, and you may want to scratch out the 7509 as well. (The former sounds almost as bad as stock headphones bundled with personal stereo equipment; the latter is WAY overpriced for the mediocre performance that you get.) As for the 7505 and 7506, the 7506 is VERY familiar to MDR-V6 owners, while the 7505 is a bit tighter-sounding than the MDR-CD570 that the 7505's drivers are based on. (BTW, the MDR-CD570 was a decent set of headphones for under $70, certainly way better than the crappy MDR-V600, though you can buy better headphones for the price.)

Hope this helps.

Bye Eagle

Hello.

Thanks very much Eagle. I suspected it might be something like that.

Does anyone know where I can get mdr v6 or mdr 7506 in EU? Or do I have to order from US?
I am asking since the price for 7506´s here (Sweden) is about the equivalent of 150 bucks, which is unnecessarily high.

Best, Mateo.

I have two questions: First of all, which headphone has the best sound (flattest, most accurate frequency response)? And second, which headphone offers the best deal for it's respective price?

Mateo,

Yes, you can get the 7506 in EU, but here they are 40 bucks more expensive than the beyer DT250.. Anyway search your local music instruments store/studio store. They may have both and I bet they will order them if they don't. This was possible at www.musikhuset.dk from where I ordered my DT250-80, which I will get next week..

HairWuzEre,

The 7509 isn't worth its high price, IMO. Sure, its highs aren't quite as bright as the 7506, but its reticent mids are the bigger problem with the 7509. Also, the 7509's highs are a bit honky (when Todd of Headroom mentioned "honky highs", he meant "tinny, ringing, resonant highs" that tend to squash most of the musicality in that range).

The 7506 is the Sony Pro Audio version of the v6. It's the best headphone Sony makes short of the CD1700 which costs quite a bit more. However, I would buy a V6 instead since it can be more easily found and found cheaper. Go to shopping.yahoo.com and enter Sony V6. You'll find them as low as $55 typically. Enter the same search with Sony 7506 and your lowest price will be about $90.

As far as I know, the 7509 is based on the V600 design. Many people prefer the V600 to the V6 but none of them dare speak in this forum. The V600 sounds remakedly like a normal headphone with the megabass left on--boomy, muddy, heavy bass that distorts or covers a good portion of the rest of the sound. I usually see the 7509 for about $200 and can't imagine anyone paying that considering the other options. Buy you know, some people love the Sony name and this is the most expensive Sony you can buy in normal consumer retail outlets and the 7509 version is typically the most expensive Sony you can find in pro audio shops.

I don't remember the 7505 specifically but can only offer you this warning--if it's not the V6/7506, I would keep your money very far away from them. The only consideration you MIGHT have is if you want in-the-ear design, the 888 is thought of highly amongst some Head-Fiers, I've not heard them.

So in order, my first suggestion is to look at headphones other than Sony. If I can't convince you of that then definitely get the V6/7506.

To make a gross generalization, I have found that most things with the name "Sony" on them are overpriced.
