How well do Sony MDR-1A headphones isolate background noise? Also how is the sound leakage? Are these good for as example, traveling in a airplane or bus?

100% agree. I haven't had much success taking the MDR-1A outside of my house. To my ears, they seem to lose some of their special sound in even slightly noisy environments.
