The E2 is an upgrade from the EX's.

The bass on the 71's is boomy and false.
While the bass on the E2's is not as pronounced, its
more realistic.

I just got a xin supermicro to run my E2's and boy
does the bass perk up on them!

I had the E3s, but I returned them because the highs were so veiled. I have EX-71s now, and I much prefer their sound - they're clearer, have stronger bass and better highs. I would call the EX71 bass louder than average, but I wouldn't call it bloated, boomy, or false. I do, though, turn the bass down a little.

I wouldn't buy the E2s or E3s at any price, and E2s are even worse than the E3s.

Consider the Sharp MD33s, from AudioCubes and probably other places. They're meant to be as comfortable as 71s and better ballanced.

HI: please do a search on the shure E2-E2C and see what many members think of the E2. Both E2-E2c are the very same.
