Lately I've got interested in old hifi gear to use in my loft and I saw this late 90's Sony flagship DVD player on Ebay for peanuts. It came today in almost as new condition with original packaging and manual but no remote.  It was to be used as a cd player but when I tried it with my amp the right channel was there but very weak.  At first I thought it was the amp playing up but I tried the headphone socket on the Sony and it was the same.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?  Is it worth getting fixed?  It is a very nice piece of kit though it only cost me £25.

I can't help with repairs, but I can tell you it makes a great transport, so use the coax out into a dac and you may have something going there. I have it in my main rig, modded by Empirical Audio. But even without mods it is a great tranny. As I recall,  it was Sony's first DVD player and its video output was the gold standard until the hi-res stuff came out.
