I have had this pair of headphones for a few years now. Bought them at a thrift store and am quite impressed with the fit and sound. Not terribly bassy but mids and highs are very nice.

I should say I own several other headphones:
Sony MDR-7506 MDR-V600
Fostex T-7
Grado SR-80
Sennheiser HD-201 and others so I won't say these are as good or as bad as the aformetioned. I own so many headphones cause each pair has its own character.

My question to the group is:
Anyone know anything about the Sony DR-45 Headphones?
I can't find any info anywhere.

Thanks for any help,
Robert

A lot of mid-late 90s sony cans kind of fit that description... ."not too bassy but smooth mids & highs". MDR-F1, MDR-CD870, MDR-CD580 come to mind off the top of my head.

Never heard of that model # though... can you post pics?

thanks,
Garrett

Hi Kramer5150
Here is a pic of the Sony DR-45. These are ultra comfortable and instead of having donut earpads, these are covered. I like how these are very well built. Last a lifetime.

They sound very good.
I can wear these for hours.
I have a home studio and sometimes use these to clean-up tracks.
Seems impossible to find out any info.
Perhaps these were not sold in NorthAmerica.

Thanks for the pics, those look interesting. What is their impedance? Most (if not all) of that headphones from that time-period are very high impedance and benefit a great deal from a proper amp circuit. So the lack of bass you hear might be the result of under-amping.

Just speculating though...

Unfortunately the impedance is not written on them and I didn't take apart the phones to see if it is written on the drivers. I'm guessing maybe 32ohms because my ipod drives them nicely at 2/3rds where they are quite loud.

I designed a headphone amp that I use with all my headphones and these certainly do not require much persuation. Still not real bassy like my Sennheisers but I find at times the sens to be too bassy and have to EQ them depending on the material I'm listening to.

At the thrift store I paid about $6.00 for them and I'm sure these were quite a lot in the day. Whenever that was. I'm guessing mid to late 80s.

Sony DR-45
It's version for german market. It was in production in 1976/77, 1978 and 1979 years.
In that time Sony manufactured 3 headphones:
electret headphones ECR-400 with its own headphone amp, DR-45 and DR-35 (his little brother).
I'm not sure about DR-45 impedance.
Sony designed new line of monitoring headphones DR-S after success of DR series in 1979-81 years. DR-S7 wich is, I only guess, successor of DR-45 has 14 Ohm impedance.
