Hi guys,

Im looking for a good pcdp with good phones and line out.

Is this any good?

The top of the line sony is too expensive.

I have a 925 and have found it good[used as a transport mainly]
its build quality is 1st class.
I have heard panasonics may sound better though,no doubt
there will be plenty of opinions put forward.

I assume by topline Sony you mean the 01,I had one it is a real
jewel but the 925 is superior in practical and sonic areas in my
view.

The phones that are supplied?.... well use and replace ASAP!!

And the D-EJ925's line out is great, but its headphone output is unremarkable.

There you go... Why do they put crappy headphones with even high end pcdps?~!?!~? They could atleast slap some ex-70s in a sony box, or, better yet, some etys...

WOW are you sure the 925 beats the 01 in sound quality? in the line out, phones out or both?

Im gonna be using it with a Porta Corda/580 (hopefully) and a 888 for jogging.

So I guess best line out for sure then 2nd'ary would be a good phones out but line out must be top notch

The phones out is somewhat different EQ than something like a Panasonic. You may or may not like its quality. I don't own a D-EJ925, but the cheaper D-EJ721 - and I will admit that I liked its output when combined with a relatively "forward"-sounding pair of headphones, such as the headphones in the Grado line.

There's a sony style centre at fox studios here.

Do you know what dacs are used?
do the 01 and 925 share the same dacs?

Actually, I'm glad that crappy headphones are supplied because I anyway pay for phones that I'm not going to use, and crappy ones don't add much to the price of the main device. What makes me really mad is the fact that I cannot buy anything today that doesn't have totally crappy headphone output, making an external amp necessary...
