Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here knows what is happening to my discman?
Sometimes I fully charged it and after a few hours listening, the battery shows empty?

And when I put it on the cradle to charge, it won't really charge (the red charging flashed awhile, then goes out again - if I reposition it in the craddle, same thing)

Sometimes it won't play, but then you take out the cd and put it back and press play, it plays.

Is it memory effect? Or maybe faulty unit?

I hope it's only memory effect. If it is, what's the best method of fixing it?
fully drain it and leave it on charge overnight?

Thanks.

Get a new battery. Your rechargeable is dead.

Before you replace the battery, does it work okay with an adapter?

If the answer is "yes", then it's the battery. If the answer is "no". Get a new Discman 'coz it will cost more to get it fixed.

Try these sites for batteries. (D-EJ1000 uses the Gum Stick batteries)

Hope this helps. Good luck!

lol...

I'm so stupid. Never come accross my mind to check it that way...
Maybe because it doesn't actually have "normal" adaptor, but adaptor that leads to a charging cradle (not the noirmal plug to your discman), that's why I didn't really think it would play without the batteries in.

Anyway, I checked it, connected it to the cradle without the battery and it worked.
So must be the damn batteries dying out on me already.

I actually just googled around, and read that NiMh doesn't really suffer from memory effect? So I guess my 2 gumsticks NiMh are broken then? They're not that old yet though. Do you Sony NimH gumstick battery owners also experience this?

I wonder whether the no-brand generic one will do the job as well as the Sony ones..
One original Sony NiMh costs 45 AUS$ here (D-EJ1000 needs 2). I can get 2 generic ones for only AUS$16.

All batteries eventually die. That is why Duracell's have 'expiration' dates on them.

Get the generic ones. The brand ones you are paying for the name. (oops, I am supposed to say get the Sony ones...)

Good to know it's not your Discman. Get the batteries and enjoy...

Take care and glad to be of help!

DJ, I've got a D-EJ1000 and non-functioning gumsticks as well. I positively hate those absurd and expensive gumsticks. Solidarity.
