Hi, this is my first post.
Currently I have a Sony D-191 discman(6-7yrs old).

As compared to other sub-$100 cd players currently available how would you rate the sound quality of the D-191 ? Would it make an appreciable difference in sound quality if I get something newer in that price range or am I better off sticking to it ?

Thanks!

I'd stick to it. Just a gut feeling though. I haven't heard it. If you have a way of finding out the output (in mW) and it's over 2x5mW there's a good change that it's better or at least as good as anything you can buy today.
