The MDR-V300 are terrible, especially considering the $50 tag. The muddiest sound you'll ever hear, completely overpowered by bass.

Is it true that the 51s have ONE piece cord and 71s have a separate extention?
I would like an e888, but in Sony Store Canada (Retail), these (cans on the list) are the only ones available to me.

Hello PrototypeX2,

I agree with MrXpress about the MDR-V300. Sony's lower-end line has NEVER been renowned; most other brands of headphones outperform the Sonys at the same price points. Practically every single sub-$50 Sony that I've ever listened to - including every single one of the models on your list - sounded harsh and/or muddy.

Too bad the only good headphone I can get my hands on is PX-100 (below $100 cdn), and the rest are...crap. I thought the next good heaphones were available at Sony but... I'm not sure now.

It sucks to be in your situation. The only good current Sony headphones on the market (consumer-line-wise) cost more than $300 CDN. (That is, if any such model is officially distributed in Canada.)

You can throw in the:

Sony MDR-XD200 ($25)
Sony MDR-XD300 ($35)
Sony MDR-XD400 ($60)

recently made domestic, they cost about 2x imported

Unfortunately, they're not yet available in Canada.

Sony's Canadian site does not list the MDR-XD### series, either. Nor does SonyStyle Canada carry any of that line right now.

I can ONLY buy in local retail stores, not even internet stores in Canada. (I know it's sad).

If you really don't need the isolation, the px100s are just wonderful. They're my most used set. A lot of people will complain about sound of the ex71s, but that's still only a handful. Many like me still enjoy them, and have no problems with sensitivity to the sound that they produce. And yes, the EX71s have a two-piece cord.
